If you do the occasional rift leveling up, you'll find yourself with alot quickly. When you get enough Shards for the zone you're in, go ahead and upgrade, you'll likely have extra planarite for the next zone.

if you do a lvl 45 - 50 invasion, you will get arround 1000 - 1500 of these. shimmerlands gives like 1200 at least if you dps everything

7500 planarite gives you your full access to 2 greater and 4 lesser essences. i say save to this first. it really helps give you the edge. run dungeons for gear and get the level 50 items. it saves alot of grinding. if nothing get the 7500 piece first

The planarite vendors in Silverwood are located south of Argent Glade: 6092,3244
In Freemarch they are located in King's Retreat: 6275,4515

There are two vendors. A basic Planar Goods Vendor sells sigils and source stones, and ascended power items. The Rare Planar Goods Vendor sells rare goods (blue & purple gear) that can be purchased with planarite and [Royalblue][link=]corrupted sourceshards[/link][/Royalblue].
