    Short Description

Shatter Energized Shards with the Crystal Mallet in the Crystal Depths to absorb their energy. Release the energy into a Forge Focuser in The Chancel of Labors before the charge fades.

    Description

These mountains are inundated with the magic of the Plane of Water, which has a weakening effect on Crucia, the Dragon of Air. Yet, she, too, radiates magic, much of which accumulates in the Crystal Depths. We drain this air energy, which would otherwise weaken Crucia's prison, and dissipates it within our forge fires.

    Completion Text

Thank you, [%NAME]. There is some vindication in using Crucia's own power against her.

All of the mobs in that cave are lvl 52 - and my rogue is dying fast since she's in blue gear mostly. I think I'll have to wait to do this quest.

Maybe you should tell us what you mean.

The three kinds of crystal are:
Unstable crystal (light blue - shaking) - 30 second buff - 100% charge
Charged crystal (light blue) - 1 minute buff - 50% charge
Infused cyrstal (purpley blue)- 4 minute buff - 20% charge

The unstable crystals aren't very common. Best option is usually 2 runs with the Charged crystals using the portal.

Doing it with the Unstable crystal gives an [link=http://rift.zam.com/en/achievement/1011890951/Achievement%3A-Impossible!]achievement[/link].

Hmm... I wonder if that orb in the corner does anything. Maybe if I turn it to red... (Hint)

Once again to be clear: You click the small orb, the portal keystone, in the corner of the cave until it and the portal pylons turn red. Then collect whatever color crystal you can nearby. Hopefully you've cleared the way to the unstable one that allows a 100% charge. Run back to the portal; be sure it's still red. The portal will then transport you to a gallery above the chancel floor. Jump to the floor and run to the sparkling Forge Focuser pylon. If you have the unstable one, it's 30 seconds to dig it up and power the focuser ... plenty of time if you've set the portal and clear the adds between the crystal and the portal. If you choose a lesser crystal, you have more time but then must run back to the cave and do the process 1 or 4 more times. You can't climb to the portal above the chancel ---- there are no stairs.

There are 2 types of crystals in the cave. There are green ones that give you a 4 minute buff that, when released give you 20% power towards your goal (Need 100%). There are light blue ones that give you a 1 minute buff, but you get 50% power towards your goal when released. There are a ton of monsters in between the cave and the Forge Focusers, so unless you're very good at dodging monsters, it's probably the safest bet to just travel back and forth 5 times with the 20% buff rather than risk getting dismounted and running out of time with the 50% buff.

There are actually three crystal types. One of them is a 100% charge with a VERY short duration. The way to complete a run with the 100% charge is the red portal trick already mentioned. This will also net you an achievement, IIRC.

Get to the portal keystone, click it till it turns red, now whack a blue crystal and fly thru the portal, jump to the floor and hit the focuser. You have plenty of time. Do this twice. You cannot hold more than one charge at a time.

I fixed this myself by doing the quest that requires you to kill the scribes in the Crystal Depths first. I'm not sure why I was able to pick this quest up if I didn't meet the requirements.

This quest name is a reference to the book "Find Your Own Truth" by Robert Charrette.

This quest will make you crazy if you try to complete it based only on the limited information given in the quest text, so good thing you're here. The mention of the mallet and its presence in inventory is completely misleading. This is a surprising Fail for Rift which normally has good player help. I guess that's why they finally put in the achievement, though fixing the quest text would have been a better solution.

    1. Go to Crystal Depths cave at 4844, 1673.
    2. Clear mobs so you can get to orb on the right side of the cave.
    3. Click orb until it turns red. The pillars on the portal platform will also turn red.
    4. Grab a blue, shaking crystal (unstable crystal) and go through the portal near the orb. This will take you to platform above the Chancel floor.
    5. Jump down and run to sparkling Forge Focuser pylon.
I only needed to do this once to get quest completion and the 10 pt achievement: Achievement: Impossible

All of the previous posts would be helpful if I knew how to find the cave for the Crystal Depths. Can someone please list the coordinates for the entrance? I'm probably missing something really obvious... and of course it didn't help that there were 2 rifts open right where I think it should be when I was looking. Still it would be helpful for me and for future players to list the opening of the cave coordinates here. Thank you.

The orb near the portal platform is not clickable to me. Am I doing something wrong? I have the quest, but I have no way to activate the portal.
