Runecrafting Recipes

< Crafting

Runecrafting is the only Manufacturing profession that does not require any materials from a Gathering profession.

Runecrafters can Runebreak magical armor, weapons, and many other items, and turn the resultant materials into Runes that can be bound to certain armor and weapons to increase their magical power.

Because you need the materials that can only be obtained by Runebreaking, Runecrafter is a very expensive profession. This is due both to the items you will need to buy so you can break them, and the items you get from adventuring that, instead of selling for cash, you break for materials. It is a very good idea to pair Runecrafting with either Armorsmith or Outfitter, and Runebreak the items that you make.

Additionally, Runecrafters need Planar Dusts and consumables that come from participation in rift events. For this reason, we suggest that all others send these to their guild's Runcrafter as they outgrow them.

Runebreak is an ability granted to Runecrafters. A rare result can yield one of the "combined" materials. There is also a rare chance to find Planar Essences. Runebreak is of paramount importance to the Runecrafter, as without it there is no way to obtain the materials needed. Runecrafting also has the ability to return top-end materials back into their low-end forms. Sadly, because someone found a way to exploit it, Runebreaking is no longer available for crafted runes.

The Runecrafting skill required to Runebreak an item is slightly different than the other Salvaging skills. The skill required to break is based on the item level, of course, but the skill required is one point higher than for other professions.

The quality of the Powders is directly tied to the quality of the item being broken rather than to skill. You may get lesser materials, but you can only get Sparkling Powder from Rare items, and Shimmering Powder from Epic items.

All Arcs, Blurs and Sparks are Uncommon, regardless of the quality of the item you are breaking, but you may get one of the higher tiers. Common items will yield only Arcs, Blurs and Sparks.

Further, the skilled Runecrafter can use the Transmute recipes to create an Uncommon Arc, Blur or Spark from a Flickering Powder, Shard or Crystal, and another material of the same tier, plus a catalyst. (e.g. Transmute: Kinetic Arc). These recipes are available at skill level 10 for Arcs, Blurs and Sparks; 60 for Charges, Glows and Surges; and 110 for Bursts, Flares and Blasts.

There are many types of Runes, and each type can have multiple tiers.

Runes are applied directly and permanently to weapons and armor, but can be overwritten. Each type of rune will specify what item it may be applied to. This is not to be confused with temporary rune effects, such as the Shrouded Rune, which will stack with permanent runes.

Many faction quartermasters will sell runes for a specific piece of weapon or armor which will require a certain Notoriety with that faction to purchase. For a listing of these, see the Armor Runes tab on this page.

The tiers of craftable runes are Dim, Glowing, Bright, Luminous, Radiant, Brilliant, Blazing, Incandescent, Gleaming, Auroral, and Empyrean. Every tier does not have every type of Rune. Auroral, and Empyrean require the Storm Legion expansion.

Runes that have only a single available tier link directly to the rune, else the link is to our database to show all the tiers of the rune that share the same core name.

While Armor Runes are not made by Runecrafters, they work the same way and it is logical to put them here.

Each zone has an Ally Faction and each of these has a Quartermaster that sells Runes that will improve a particular type of armor. They will only sell these to players that have earned a certain Notoriety with their faction.

These Armor Runes use the same attachment point as player-crafted Runes. An Armor Rune and a player-crafted Rune or Runeshard will not stack and the newly applied one will destroy the older one.

As an example, the following four runes are for sale for 20g from Quicksilver Scholars' Quartermaster Molira. You must be regarded as Decorated or higher, they can be applied only to a Belt-slotted item, and each adds +3 to one Main stat.

? Honored (Minor) Armor Runes sold by QMs in Storm Legion are Rare (+18 to main stat, +10 to End), while Glorified Armor Runes are Epic (+35 to main stat, +19 End)!

The following recipes require Notoriety with a certain faction to purchase.

Unlike other Runes that give bonuses to stats, the first six Runes in Planar Factions add a proc to a weapon. For example, the Crushing Runeshard can be applied to any Two Handed weapon and adds a chance to reduce your target's armor by 178, for 10 seconds, when you use a damaging ability. These are similar to procs granted by Greater Essences.

The rest of the Runes in this table add Resistances.

There are no Runcrafting recipes available from Ally Faction quartermasters.
